Service Interruption
This upgrade proc ess requires a service interruption that depends on whether
the Release 8r cabinet can b e installed while the present system is in se rvice. In
this case, the service interrup tion may only be about 2 hours. If, however, the
present system must be removed to all ow room for the Release 8r cabinet, then
the service interruption may b e 8 hours, or more.
This upgrade must be c losely coordinated wi th the customer and the loca l
account team.
Call Management System (CMS)
The CMS link is dropped and restarted during the upgrade. This causes CMS
data to be lost. This data loss c an be minimized if the up grade is perfor med just
after the last CMS measurement interval.
All measurement data is lost during the upgrade (inc luding BCMS). If needed ,
the reports may be printed before the upgrade begins.
CMS could abort the proc essing of a call if a measured trunk tha t was part of the
conference dropp ed off the call before the end of the call. Customers
experiencing this symp tom and who are running R3V4 CMS should upd ate to
r3v4ao.e or higher.
Preventing Translation Errors
When instructed in this chap ter, perform the save translation c ommand.
Afterward, check for translation e rrors before proceeding with the upgrade.
NOTE:
Be sure that the translations get saved with out errors before continuing with
any upgrade.
If errors are detected, refer to ‘‘No Translations After Upgrade’’ in Appendix B,
‘‘Troubleshooting an Upgrade’’ to correct the p roblem. Do not continue with the
upgrade until the errors are c orrected.
Communication Between Equipment Rooms
For an upgrade where some of the eq uipment resides at a remote location, th e
upgrade ac tivity is much easier if temporary c ommunication is establis hed
between the equipment rooms.
