Removable Media Troubleshooting Guidelines
Use the following guide lines when troubleshooting and resolving removable
media (R-MEDIA) problems.
1.

Avoid saving translations or announc ements

on the backup removab le
drive until all other removable med ia and Host Adapter p roblems have
been resolved.
If there is something wrong with the Mass Storage System, an attemp t to
save translations or announcements c ould destroy a g ood copy of the file s
on the removable media.
2. In a system configured with d uplicated SPEs, the tests run on the standby
removable media circui t pack are identic al to those run on the active
removable media circui t pack. Communications b etween the active and
standby SPEs is provided by the DUPINT circu it pack for both the c ontrol
channel and memory shad owing. Therefore, problems with the DUPINT
circuit pack may affect maintenance tests of the standb y removable media
circuit pack.
3. Check the error log for power related problems and refer to the
maintenance documentatio n on power.
4. The data on the removable media will likely be destroyed if:
The optical disk is removed when the amber LED on the removable
media circuit p ack is on.
The removable media circuit pa ck is removed while the amber LED
on the removable media circ uit pack is on.
Power is removed from the removable media while the amb er LED
on the removable media circ uit pack is on.
