Upgrading R5si/R6si to R8r EPN
and Adding Memory
This chapter provides the info rmation necessary to upg rade a Single-Carrier
Cabinet (SCC) Release 5si/Release 5si + memory/Release 6si system with a
TN790 RISC processor to a Release 8 EPN.
The existing SCC PPN is always upgraded to an EPN. The new multicarrier
cabinet always serves as the PPN. Upgrad ing to an EPN for a Release 8r
requires changing, an d often restructuring, the exp ansion interface circ uit packs.
Hardware changes (includ ing carrier replac ement in the SCC cabinet) is
required.
This upgrade assumes that the Release 8r c abinet has already been instal led. If
not, refer to

and Test for Multicarrier Cabinets
to install the Release 8r system. Return to this
chapter when finished.
In this chapter, all occ urrences of Release 5si and Release 5si + memory are
called Release 5si unless a specific configuration is required to differentiate
between product offerings.

lists Release 8 features and functions and provides the command s, procedures,
and forms to initialize and ad minister the Release 8r.
