B
A -48V to +12V converter circuit on the TN2211 Optical Drive circuit p ack
provides power for b oth the Optical Drive and the Disk Drive. The presence of
+12V on these circuit pac ks is monitored separately b y maintenance software so
that a failure of the +12V converter on the Removable Med ia circuit pac k can be
identified or ruled out a s the source of the problem when the Di sk Drive loses
+12V power.
The Host Adapter circuit p ack, Removable Media Drive c ircuit pack, and Disk
circuit pack are treated as separate, but related , maintenance objects
(H-ADAPTR, R-MEDIA, and DISK). Since the Disk circuit pac k is controlled by
SCSI commands which are generated by the Host Adapter, p roblems with the
Host Adapter can p revent communications with the Disk. Whenever the Host
Adapter is taken out of servic e by the busy-out host-adapter command, or d ue
to failure of a critical Host Ad apter test, the Removable Media (R-MEDIA) and
Disk (DISK) maintenance objects are also p laced in a maintenanc e busyout
state.
