Add a Switch Node Carrier (High or Critical Reliability)
To upgrade to a high or critic al reliability R8r, a second switc h node carrier is
added either to an emp ty ā€œEā€ carrier p osition of an existing multicarrier p ort
network or to the ā€œDā€ carrier p osition (as the duplic ate switch node carrier) of an
existing multicarrier cab inet.
NOTE:
To avoid moving a port carrier, the p referred practice is to place the new
switch node carrier in an empty carrier position.
Service Interruption
1. Since the addition of the sec ond switch node c arrier requires a service
interruption, notify the customer in ad vance as to when the additio n will be
carried out.
Verify System Status
1. Before proceeding, the s ystem should be examined for al arms, and every
problem should be corrected. The system must be alar m-free.
Disable Alarm Origination
1. Type change system-parameters maintenance and press Enter.
2. Make a note of the Alarm Origination Activated field
administration. If the feature is enabled , type n in this field and p ress Enter
to disable Alarm Orig ination.
!WARNING:

If you do not disable Alarm Origination before making c hanges to the

switch, the switch may g enerate alarms, resulting in unnecessar y

trouble tickets. Reducing redundant and unne cessary trouble

tickets.

NOTE:
For some releases of the system software, you may also need to
disable Cleared Alarm Notification and Restart
Notification fields before submitting the form.
