Alarm Connection
The D6 connector on G2 systems had 31 alar m-monitor appearances (Unit 1 to
Unit 31) for external equipment. The AUXILIARY connector on an R8 PPN only
has appearances for 1M (maj or alarm) and 1m (minor alarm). If the G2 system
being upg raded used more than 1 major or more than 1 minor alarm-monitor
appearance, these extra ap pearances, they ca n either be distributed to the
AUXILIARY connector on a DEFINITY ECS Release 8 EPN, or “ganged” so that
several external devices share the sa me appearance. The alarms c an also be
accommodated by paralleling them to th e above connections.
NOTE:
When several external devices are gang ed to the same app earance, each
device loses its indivi dual identity. An alarm on a shared app earance only
denotes that 1 of several devic es reported a prob lem. Subsequent
maintenance effort is needed to determine which d evice reported the
problem and the nature of the p roblem.
The control circuit pac k behind the AUXILIARY connector detec ts external
alarms with a ground-dete ctor chip. Therefore, to gang several external
devices, every devic e must be able to return a true relay g round closure to
the AUXILIARY connector. Alternatives, such as a TTL low driver, are
inadequate.
The following tables correlate wall-field terminal numbers, connec tor pin
numbers, lead colors, and lead designa tions for the G2 D6 and DEFINITY ECS
Release 8 AUXILIARY connectors.
