Add DCS Interface
Systems in a Distributed Communication s System (DCS) network are
interconnected b y both tie trunks (for voice c ommunications) and d ata links (for
control and transparent feature informat ion). These data links, also called DC S
signaling links, supp ort the feature transparenc y.
Various subsets (depending on the specific c onfiguration) of DS1 Interface
circuit packs (in cluding TN464F, TN767E, and TN760E) provide the
voice-communicat ions interface.
Meanwhile, the data link interface (b etween the processor and the physical
signaling link) is provid ed by (or throug h) a TN799 Control-LAN circuit pack. I n
some configurations, the TN799 pa sses the signaling informatio n over a separate
10BaseT TCP/IP network (usually via a hub). For use with 10BaseT, connect the
appropriate pins of the I/O field to the hub. For pinouts and diagrams, refer to the
installation manual for your cabinet typ e. In other configurations, the TN799
circuit pack c arries signaling over p oint-to-point protoc ol (PPP) for subsequent
inclusion (via the switching fabric) in the same DS1 bit stream as the DCS voice
transmissions.
A TN780 Tone-Clock circuit pack (installed in t he PPN) can interface external
Stratum 3 synchronization for DS1 connections.

Add Circuit Packs

A TN464 F, TN76 7E, or TN 760E D S1 cir cuit pac k is r equi red for PPP c onnections.
A TN799 Control-LAN circuit pack is also required.
1. Determine the port assignments of th e circuit packs to b e added. If t here
are no available port slots in the p rocessor cabinet for the Control-LAN
circuit pack, p lace it in a R8 EPN cabinet port slot. You do not need to
power down the cab inet to install the circuit p ack.
