Chapter 33. Con®guring and Monitoring Point-to-Point

Protocol Interfaces

This chapter describes Point-to-Point Protocol interface con®guration and

operational commands in the device. Sections in this chapter include:

v ªAccessing the Interface Con®guration Processº

v ªPoint-to-Point Con®guration Commandsº on page 466

v ªAccessing the Interface Monitoring Processº on page 483

v ªPoint-to-Point Monitoring Commandsº on page 483

v ªPoint-to-Point Protocol Interfaces and the GWCON Interface Commandº on

page 506

Accessing the Interface Con®guration Process

Use the following procedure to access the router's con®guration process. This

process gives you access to a speci®c interface'scon®gurationprocess.

1.At the OPCON prompt (*), enter the status command to ®nd the PID for CONFIG. (See page 9 for sample output of the status command.)

2.At the OPCON prompt, enter the OPCON talk command and the PID for CONFIG. (For more detail on this command, refer to ªChapter 3. The OPCON Processº on page 25.) For example:

* talk 6

After you enter the talk 6 command, the CONFIG prompt (Config>) displays on the console. If the prompt does not appear when you ®rst enterCONFIG, press Return again.

3.At the CONFIG prompt, enter the list devices command to display the network interface numbers for which the router is currently con®gured. For example:

Config> list devices

4.Record the interface numbers.

5.Enter the CONFIG network command and the number of the interface you want to con®gure. For example:

Config> network 1

The appropriate con®guration prompt (such asTKR Config> for token-ring), now displays on the console.

Note: Not all network interfaces are user-con®gurable. For interfaces that cannot be con®gured, you receive the message:

That network is not configurable
