Getting Started with Network Interfaces

Accessing Link Layer Protocol Con®guration and Console Processes

Refer to ªChapter 1. Getting Startedº on page 3 for complete information on accessing the protocol con®guration and console processes. Accessing these processes allows you to change and monitor con®gurable parameters for Link Layer protocols supported by your router.

De®ning Spare Interfaces

There may be occasions when you will need to de®ne interfaces on your device that do not currently exist. You accomplish this dynamic recon®guration of a device by de®ning spare interfaces while you are con®guring the device and then using the console process to activate the interfaces when they are present. See ªCon®guring Spare Interfacesº on page 44 and ªActivateº on page 128 for details.
