Using PPP

v The client con®guration controls the suspension and resumption of a VC. The

DIALs server cannot control that aspect of the connection.

v A VC can be established through an MP bundle.

v VCs cannot run over L2TP.

v Suspended VCs cannot be displayed with current network management tools.

v Do not assign an IP address to remote users by interface. Because another

client could use an interface with which a client establishes a VC, when the VC

attempts to reconnect with the server the connection will fail because the IP

address is in use.

v A dial-in client must use SPAP for authentication.

Con®guring a VC

Con®gure VCs when you add a DIALs client at theConfig> prompt. When you

con®gure the user, you can either use the DIALs dial-in defaults (see theset DIALs

command in the Using and Con®guring Features) for the maximum suspend time

and inactivity timeout, or con®gure speci®c values for the particular client. The

following example shows the minimum con®guration for a VC for DIALs dial-in client

To display the box-level default values for maximum virtual connections, idle timeout

period, and the global default maximum suspend time, use the DIALs config>list

vc-parameterscommand in the DIALs feature. To display these parameters along

with the maximum suspend time and inactivity timeout for all virtual connections,

use the list all command in the DIALs feature. See ªDIALs Global Monitoring

Commandsº in Using and Con®guring Features.
