Note: When using the con®guration program, do the following to make con®guration changes to existing interfaces:

1. Make the con®guration changes for the interface on the device

2. Enter the reset command to reset interface, protocol and feature parameters

3. Retrieve the con®guration using the con®guration program

4. Save the retrieved con®guration into the con®guration program database

Restrictions for Resetting Interfaces

The reset command cannot be used to reset a network interface if:

v You have already entered a delete interface command. The device must be restarted if any interface has been deleted.

v You have changed the hardware or data link type. For example, changing the data link type from PPP to Frame Relay.

v You have con®gured a larger MTU.

v You have con®gured a routing protocol or bridging on the interface, but that

routing protocol or bridging is not currently active in the device.

In these situations, you must restart the device to activate the con®guration

changes.

You can change the con®guration parameters of the following types of interfaces,

but you cannot activate the changes using the reset command:

v

ATM

v PPP Multilink master and dedicated link nets

v

ISDN

v

X.25

v

SDLC

v

SDLC Relay

v

V.25bis

You must restarted the device to activate these con®guration changes.
