These procedures describe how to establish a debug session between a local workstation and a remote M2488.

8-7.2.1 M2488 Side (Remote)

8-7.2.1.1 Equipment Required

1 US Robotics Sportster 28,800 FAX Modem

1RS-232 cable, 9-pin female to 25-pin male

1M2488 Cartridge Tape Drive

8-7.2.1.2 Procedure

STEP ACTION

1Switch M2488 power on. Wait for self-test diagnostics to complete. (The M2488 may already be powered-on in which case you don’t need to perform this step.)

2Prepare modem DIP switch settings. Important settings are:

1 down (DTR override)

2 up (verbal results code)

3 up (suppress result codes)

4 up (echo off-line commands)

5 up (auto answer)

6 up (carrier detect normal)

7 down (load factory defaults)

8 down (smart modem)

3Attach phone line to modem (telephone wall socket to modem connection.)

4Attach line between phone and modem if desired.

5Connect power cord to modem.

6Connect RS-232 cable between modem and M2488.

7Switch modem power on.

8Press SHIFT and TEST keys at same time. Hold keys for 5 seconds. (If the modem has a Receive Data (RD) lamp, this lamp will blink a few times.)
