Command Syntax Conventions

The conventions used to present command syntax are as follows:

Convention

Description

Vertical bars separate alternative, mutually exclusive elements.

Example: (config)# clock source {12} {noneds1 1ds1 2ds1 3ds1 4}

[ ]

Square brackets indicate an optional element.

Example: (config)# event-history priority [errorfatalinfonoticewarning]

{ }

Braces indicate a required choice.

Example: (config)# clock {12} source {nonet1 port}

Boldface

Boldface indicated commands and keywords that are entered literally as shown. In actual

configuration examples and output (not general command syntax), boldface indicates commands

that are manually input by the user (i.e. show command).

Italics

Italics indicates arguments for which you supply values.
