Cross-Connect Fields
Each MDF contains a trunk/auxiliary field and a d istrib ution field. The
trunk/auxiliary field cont ains 3 cross-connec t areas:
1.

The green field

terminates the network interface leads from the Central
Office (CO) and provides th e ter minals to c ross-connect the lead s to the
purple or yellow fields as required. A sing le row of the 110-type terminal
block c an terminate twenty-four 1-pair, eig ht 3-pair, or twelve 2-p air
trunks.
2.

The purple field

terminates the trunk circuits from the system with
WP-90929, List 1 or 3 concentrator cables. Also, 25-pa ir c ables can be
used to terminate trunk circuits from the system with each trunk circuit
pack connec ting to one 25-pair row of the 110-type terminal b lock. Each
terminal block row can ter minate twenty-four 1-pair, eight 3-pa ir, or twelve
2-pair trunks.
3.

The yellow field

provides cross-co nnec t terminals for all miscellaneous
leads from the system, such as alarm monitors, emergency transfer relay
power, and attendant c onsole power. This field is used for emergenc y
transfer wiring, pag ing equip ment, music sources, and so forth.
The distribution field contains 4 c ross-connect areas:
1.

The purple field

(port field) terminates 25-pair c ables from the system.
Each line circuit pac k connects to one 25-p air row of the 110-type terminal
block. One 25-pair c able is required for eac h lin e c ircuit pack.
NOTE:
This is the case except for the 16 port analog circuit pac k and the
MET circuit pack. The 16-port analog line circ uit pack req uires an
adapter cab le to connect from 1 connec tor on the system to 2
25-pair connectors on a 110-typ e terminal block. Two MET circuit
packs require a c oncentrator cable to c onnect from 2 connec tors on
the system to one 25-pair connecto r on a 110-typ e terminal block.
2.

The yellow field

(auxiliary field) ter m inates all 25-pair c ables from the
auxiliary cabinet and ad junct equip ment cabinets. The yellow field is
located in the lower rig ht-hand cor ner of the distribution field .
3.

The white field

(station field) terminates the station wiring . The white field
indicates 3-pair station c i rc uits (8 circuits per 25-p air c able) routed
through a satellite closet.
4.

The blue field

(station field) also terminates station wiring. The blue field
indicates 3- and/or 4-p air station circuits (8 or 6 circuits, respec tively, per
25-pair cable). The fourth p air, of the 4-pair station circuit p rovides adjunct
power from the cross-connec t field on an as-needed b asis to terminals
within 250 feet (76 m) (wire length) of the MDF.
