4 Installation precautions

CAUTION

Ensure that the router does not overload the power circuits, wiring, and over-current protection. To determine the possibility of overloading the supply circuits, add the ampere (amp) ratings of all routers installed on the same circuit as the router. Compare this total with the rating limit for the circuit. The maximum ampere ratings are usually printed on the devices near the input power connectors.

CAUTION

Brocade NetIron XMR 4000, 8000 16000, and 32000 routers with DC power sources are intended for installation in restricted access areas only. A restricted access area is where access can be gained only by service personnel through the use of a special tool, lock and key, or other means of security, and is controlled by the authority responsible for the location.

CAUTION

Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 routers with AC power sources are intended for installation in restricted access areas only. A restricted access area is a location where access can be gained only by service personnel through the use of a special tool, lock and key, or other means of security.

CAUTION

For the DC input circuit to the system of Brocade NetIron XMR 4000, 8000, and 16000 routers (1200W supply), make sure there is a 30 amp circuit breaker, minimum -48Vdc, double pole, on the input lugs to the power supply. The input wiring for connection to the product should be copper wire,#8 AWG for 1200W power supply and #6 AWG for 1800W power supply, marked VW-1, and rated minimum 90o C.

CAUTION

For the DC input circuit to the system of a Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 router (2400W supply) make sure there is a 75 amp circuit breaker, minimum -48Vdc, double pole, on the input lugs to the power supply. The input wiring for connection to the product should be copper wire, 4 AWG, marked VW-1, and rated minimum 90ο C.

CAUTION

For the NEBS-compliant installation of a Brocade NetIron XMR 4000, 8000, and 16000 routers with AC and DC systems, use a ground wire of at least 6 American Wire Gauge (AWG). The ground wire should have an agency-approved crimped connector (provided with the device) attached to one end, with the other end attached to building ground. The connector must be crimped with the
