Managing DNS servers

You can add up to three DNS servers to the system configuration. The DNS server is used by the captive portal when it forwards queries on the Exclude List. (For more information about the captive portal and the Exclude List, see “Captive portal and Exclude List” on page 386.)

To configure the cluster to use external DNS servers, use the following command:

/cfg/sys/dns/servers

The DNS Servers menu displays.

The DNS Servers menu includes the following options:

/cfg/sys/dns/servers followed by:

list

Lists the IP addresses of currently configured DNS

 

servers, by index number.

 

 

del <index number>

Removes the specified DNS server from the system

 

configuration. The index numbers of the remaining

 

entries adjust accordingly.

 

To view the index numbers of all configured DNS

 

servers, use the list command.

 

 

add <IPaddr>

Adds a DNS server to the system configuration.

 

IPaddr — the IP address of the DNS server

 

The system automatically assigns the next available

 

index number to the server.

 

You can add up to three DNS servers to the

 

configuration.

 

 

insert <index number>

Inserts a server at a particular position in the list of

<IPaddr>

DNS servers in the configuration.

 

index number — the index number you want

 

the server to have

 

IPaddr — the IP address of the DNS server you

 

are adding

 

The index number you specify must be in use. The

 

index numbers of existing servers with this index

 

number and higher are incremented by 1.
