8Click OK.

The Console window redisplays.

9To save the console (including the Schema snap-in), go to the File (Console) menu and select Save.

The Save As windows displays.

10Save the console in the Windows\System 32 root folder. As file name, enter schmmgmt.msc.

11Click Save.

Create a shortcut to the console window

1Right-click Start, and select Open all Users.

2Double-click the Programs and Administrative Tools folders.

3On the File menu, point to New, and then select Shortcut. The Create Shortcut Wizard displays.

4In the Type the location of the item field, type schmmgmt.msc.

5Click Next.

The Select a Title for the Program page displays.

6In the Type a name for this shortcut field, type Active Directory Schema.

7Click Finish.

Permit write operations to the schema (Windows 2000 Server)

To allow a domain controller to write to the schema, you must set a registry entry that permits schema updates.

1In the Console window, on the left pane, right-click Active Directory Schema.

2Select Operations Master.
