Configuring VTP

Enabling VTP Pruning

Pruning inc reases available bandwi dth by restric ting flood ed traffic to those trunk links th at the traffic
must use to access the destination de vices. You can only enable VTP pruning on a switch in VTP server
mode.
Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to enable VTP pruning in the VTP domain:

Note You can also enable VTP pruning by using the vlan database privi leged EXEC command to enter VLAN

Pruning is sup por ted w it h VT P version 1 a nd version 2. I f you ena ble pruni ng on t he V TP se rver, it i s

Only VLANs included in the pruning-eligible list can be pruned. By default, VLANs 2 through 1001 are
pruning eligibl e on trunk por ts. Reserved VLA Ns and exten ded-ran ge VLAN s cannot be pruned. To
change the pruning-eligible VLANs, see the Changing the Pruning-Eligible List section on
page 14-20.
Command Purpose
