Configuring QoS
This chapter describes how to configure quality of service (QoS) by using QoS commands. With QoS,
you can provide preferential treatment to certain types of traffic at the expense of others. Without QoS,
the switch of f ers b est-effort servi ce to e ach pack et, re ga rdle ss of th e pack et co ntent s or s ize. I t send s the
packets without any assuran ce of reliability, d elay bounds, or thr oughpu t.
To use the features described in this chapter, you must have the enhanced software image (EI) installed
on your switch.
If you hav e the standard software image (SI) installed on your switch, you cannot conf igure some of the
featu re s. Table 26-1 list s the sect ions tha t describe the featur es tha t you can co nfigure.
Note For comple te syntax and us age inform ation for the co mmands used in this chapter, refer to th e command
refere nce f o r thi s r ele ase.
QoS can be configured either by using the Cluste r Manage ment Suit e (CMS) or thr ough the
command-line interfa ce (CLI). Refer to the CMS online help for configuration procedures through CMS.
For informa ti on ab out ac c essing a nd us ing C MS, see Ch apter 3, Getting Started with CMS.
You can al so use these wiz ards to configure QoS only if your switch is ru nning the E I:
Priority data wizar dLets you assign priority lev els to data applications based on their TCP or UDP
ports. It provides a standard list of applications, and you select the ones that you want to prioritize,
the priority levels, and the interfaces where the prioritization occurs. Refer to the priority data
wizard on line help for proce dures about usin g this wiza rd.
