Editing Command Lines that Wrap

You can use a wraparound feature for comma nds that extend beyond a si ngle line o n the screen . When
the cursor reaches the right margin, the command line shifts ten spaces to the left. You cannot see the
first ten charac ters of the lin e, but you can scroll bac k and chec k the synt ax at the beginnin g of the
comm an d.
To scroll back to the be ginning of the command entry, press Ctrl-B or the left arro w key repeatedly . You
can also press Ctrl-A to imme diat el y move to th e begi nn ing o f the l ine .
Note Th e arrow keys function only on ANSI- compat ible ter minals s uch as VT100 s.
In this exam ple, the access-list global configuration command entry extends beyond one line. When the
cursor f irst reaches the end of the line , the line is shifted ten spaces to the le ft and redisplayed. The dollar
sign ($ ) shows tha t the lin e ha s be en scr olled to the le ft. E ach time th e cu rsor reach es the end o f the lin e,
the line is again shifted ten spaces to the left.

The software assumes you hav e a terminal screen that is 80 columns wide. If you hav e a width other than
that, use the terminal width privileged EX EC comm a nd to set the width of y our t ermi n al.

Press Ctrl-L or Ctrl-R. Redisplay the current command line.
