Configuring UDLD

Enabling UDLD Globally

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to enable UDLD in the aggressiv e or the normal
mode and to set the configurable message timer on all fiber-optic interfaces on the switch:
To disab le UDL D glob all y, use th e no udld enable global configurat ion co mmand t o disa ble
normal-mod e UDLD on all f ibe r-optic ports. Use t he no udld aggressiv e global configuration command
to disable aggressive-mode UDLD on all fiber-optic ports.

Enabling UDLD on an Interface

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to enable UDLD in the aggressive or normal
mode on an interface:
Command Purpose
Step 1 configure terminal Enter gl obal c on figuratio n mod e.
Step 2 udld {aggressive | enable | message time
message-timer-interval}Specify the UDLD mode of operation:
aggressiveEnables UDLD in aggressive mode on all fiber-optic
interfaces. For details on the usage guidelines for the aggressive
mode, refer to th e comm and refe rence gui de.
enableEnables UDLD in normal mode on all fiber-optic
interfaces on the switch. UDLD is disabled by default.
An individual interface configuration overrides the setting of the
udld enable global configura tio n com mand .
message time message-timer-intervalConfigures t he pe rio d o f
time between UDLD probe messages on ports that are in the
advertisement phase and are determined to be bidirectional. The
range is f ro m 7 to 90 seco nds.
Note This command only affects fiber-optic interfaces. Use the udld
interface configuration command to enable UDLD on other
interfac e types. For more info rmation, see the Enabling UDL D
on a n In terfa ce section on page 19-4.
Step 3 end Retur n to privileged EXEC mode .
Step 4 show udld Verify yo ur entries.
Step 5 copy running-config startup-config (Optio nal) Save you r entries in the con figuration file.
Command Purpose
Step 1 configure terminal Enter g lo bal configur ation m ode .
Step 2 interface interface-id Enter interface configuration mode, and specify the interface to be
enabled for UDLD.
