Configuring the Time Zone

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to manually configure the time zone:
The minutes-offset variable in the clock timezone glob al c on figuratio n co mma nd is available f or th ose
cases wh ere a local time zone is a percenta ge of an ho ur dif feren t from UTC. For e xampl e, the time zone
for some sect ions of Atlant ic Canada (AST) is UTC-3 .5, where the 3 me ans 3 hours a nd .5 means 50
percent. In this case, the necessary command is clock tim ezo ne AST -3 30.
To set the time to UTC, use the no clock timezone global con figuration co mmand.
Command Purpose
Step 1 configure terminal Enter globa l configurati on mode.
Step 2 clock timezone zone hours-offset
[minutes-offset]Set the time zone.
The switch keeps internal time in universal time coordinated (UTC), so
this comm a nd is use d only fo r di spla y pur pose s a nd w he n t he time is
manually set.
For zone, ent er t he n am e of t he t ime zone to be disp laye d whe n
standard time is in effect. The default is UTC.
For hours-offset, enter the hou rs offset from UTC.
(Optiona l) For minutes-offset, enter the minutes offset from UTC.
Step 3 end Return to privileged EXEC mode.
Step 4 show running-config Verify your e ntri es.
Step 5 copy running-config startup-config (Optiona l) Save your entries in the co nfigurati on file.
