Chapter 22 Configuring RMO N Configuring RMON

Configuring RMON Collection on an Interface

You must first configure RM ON a lar ms an d events to di spla y co lle ctio n inf or mat ion.

Beginning i n privileged EX EC mode , follow th ese s teps t o col le ct gro up hi stor y sta tis tics o n an

interface:

To disable history collection, use the no rmon collection history index interface configuration

command.

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to collect group Ethernet statistics on an

interface:

Command Purpose

Step 1 configure terminal Enter globa l configurati on mode.

Step 2 interface interface-id Enter interface configuration mode, and specify the interface on

which to coll ect hist ory.

Step 3 rmon collection history index

[buckets bucket-number] [ interval seconds]

[owner ownername]

Enable history collection for the specified number of buckets and

time period .

•For index, identify the RMON group of statistics The range

is 1 to 65535.

•(Optiona l) For buckets bucket-number, specify the

maximu m num be r o f buckets desi red f or the RMO N

collecti on histo ry group of statis tics. The range is 1 to

65535. T he defau lt is 50 buckets.

•(Optiona l) For interval seconds, spe cify the num ber of

seconds in each polling cycle.

•(Optiona l) For owner ownername, ent er th e na me of the

owner of the RMON group of statistics.

Step 4 end Return to privileged EXEC mode.

Step 5 show running-config Verify your e ntri es.

Step 6 show rmon histor y Display the conte nts of the switch hi story table .

Step 7 copy running-config startup-config (Optiona l) Save your entries in the co nfigurati on file.

Command Purpose

which to collect statistics.

Step 3 rmon collection stats index [owner ownername] Enable RMON statistic collection on the interface.

Step 4 end Return to privileged EXEC mode.
