Configuring RMON

This chapter describes ho w to configure Remote Network Monitoring (RMON) on your switch. RMON
is a standard monitoring specifi cation th at def ines a set of sta tistics and functions th at can be e xchanged
betwee n RMON-com plian t console syste ms and networ k probes. RM ON provides you with
comp rehensive network-fau lt diagnosis , plann ing, and perf orman ce-tu ning info rmatio n.

Understandin g RMON

RMON is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard monitoring specification that allows
various network agents an d consol e systems to exchange network moni toring dat a. You can use the
RMON feature with the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent in the switch to monitor
all the traffic flowing among switches on all connected LAN segments.
