Donot remove the hardware that contains the endpoint or perform any maintenance on it until the update
processhas completed.If thehardware isremoved or otherwiseunavailable due to maintenance, the
firmwareupdate fails. This failure may corrupt the backup partition. You cannot update the firmware on
anendpoint with a corrupted backup partition.

Step 1 Inthe Navigation pane, clickthe Equipment tab.
Step 2 Onthe Equipment tab, click the Equipment node.
Step 3 Inthe Work pane, click the Firmware Management tab.
Step 4 Onthe Installed Firmware tab, click Update Firmware.
CiscoUCS Manager GUI opens the Update Firmware dialog box and verifies the firmware versions for all
endpointsin the Cisco UCS domain. This step may take a few minutes, depending upon the number of chassis
andservers.
Step 5 Inthe Update Firmware dialog box, do the following:
a) From the Filter drop-down list on the menu bar, select ALL.
Ifyou want to updateall endpoint firmware of a specific type, such as all adapters or server BIOS, select
thattype from the drop-down list.
b) In the Select field, do one of the following:
Toactivate all endpoints to the same version, click the Versionradio button and select the appropriate
versionfrom the Set Versiondrop-down list.
Toactivate all endpoints to the firmware version included in a specific bundle, click the Bundle
radiobutton and select the appropriate bundle from the Set Bundle drop-down list .
c) Click OK.
Ifone or more endpoints cannot be directly updated, Cisco UCS Manager displays a notification message.
Afteryou acknowledge the notification message, Cisco UCS Manager updates the firmware for all other
endpointson serversthat canbe directlyupdated.
CiscoUCS Manager copies the selected firmware image to the backup memory partition and verifies that the
imageis not corrupt.The imageremains as the backupversion untilyou explicitlyactivate it. Cisco UCS
Managerbegins all updates at the same time. However, some updates may complete at different times.
Theupdate is complete when the Update Firmware dialog box displays ready in the Update Status column
forall updatedendpoints.
Step 6 (Optional) To monitor the progress of the update to a specific endpoint, right-click the endpoint and choose
ShowNavigator.
CiscoUCS Manager displays the progress in the Update Status area on the General tab. If the navigator has
anFSM tab, you can also monitorthe progress there.An entryin the Retry # field may not indicate that the
updatehas failed.The retry countalso includesretries that occur whenCisco UCSManager retrieves the
updatestatus.
