Configuring Server Discovery Policies

Server Discovery Policy

Thisdiscovery policy determines how the system reacts when you add a new server. If you create a server
discoverypolicy, you can control whether the system conducts a deep discovery when a server is added to a
chassis,or whether a user must first acknowledge the new server. By default, the system conducts a full
discovery.
Ifyou createa server discovery policy, the following occurs when a new server starts:
1Thequalification in the server discovery policy is executed against the server.
2Ifthe server meets the required qualifications, Cisco UCS Manager applies the following to the server:
• Depending upon the option selected for the action, either discovers the new server immediately or
waitsfor auser to acknowledgethe new server
• Applies the scrub policy to the server

Creating a Server Discovery Policy

Before You Begin
Ifyou planto associate this policy with a server pool, create server pool policy qualifications.
Procedure
Step 1 Inthe Navigation pane, clickthe Equipment tab.
Step 2 Onthe Equipment tab, click the Equipment node.
Step 3 Inthe Work pane, click the Policies tab.
Step 4 Clickthe Server Discovery Policiessubtab.
Step 5 Clickthe +icon on thetable icon bar to open the Create Server Discovery Policy dialog box.
Step 6 Inthe Description field, entera description for thediscovery policy.
Step 7 Inthe Action field, selectone of thefollowing options:
Immediate—Thesystem attempts to discovernew servers automatically
UserAcknowledged—The system waits until the user tellsit to search fornew servers
Step 8 (Optional) To associate this policy with a server pool, select server pool policy qualifications from the
Qualificationdrop-down list.
Step 9 (Optional) To include a scrub policy, select a policy from the Scrub Policy drop-down list.
Step 10 Click OK.
