Procedure
Step 1 Inthe Navigation pane, clickthe Equipment tab.
Step 2 Onthe Equipment tab, expand Equipment >Chassis >Chassis Number >Servers.
Step 3 Expandthe node for theserver for whichyou wantto update the BIOS firmware.
Step 4 Onthe General tab, click the Inventory tab.
Step 5 Clickthe Motherboard tab.
Step 6 Inthe Actions area, clickUpdate Bios Firmware.
Step 7 Inthe Update Firmware dialog box, do the following:
a) From the Version drop-down list, select the firmware version to which you want to update the server
BIOS.
b) (Optional) If you want to update the firmware regardless of any possible incompatibilities or currently
executingtasks, check the Forcecheck box.
c) Click OK.
CiscoUCS Manager copies the selected server BIOS firmware package to the backup memory slot, where it
remainsuntil you explicitlyactivate it.
Theupdate iscomplete when theBIOS area of the Motherboard tab displaysReady in the Update Status
columnfor the BackupVersion.

Activating the BIOS Firmware on a ServerProcedure

Step 3 Expandthe node for theserver for whichyou wantto activate the updated BIOS firmware.
Step 4 Onthe General tab, click the Inventory tab.
Step 5 Clickthe Motherboard tab.
Step 6 Inthe Actions area, clickActivate Bios Firmware.
Step 7 Inthe Activate Firmware dialog box, do the following:
a) Select the appropriate server BIOS version from the Version ToBe Activated drop-down list.
b) (Optional) If you want to activate the firmware regardless of any possible incompatibilities or currently
executingtasks, check the IgnoreCompatibility Check check box.
c) If you want to set the start up version and not change the version running on the server, check the Set
StartupVersion Only check box.
Ifyou configureSet StartupVersion Only, the activated firmware moves into the pending-next-reboot
stateand the server is not immediately rebooted. The activated firmware does not become the running
versionof firmwareuntil the server isrebooted.
