Creating a vNIC/vHBA Placement Policy
Procedure
Step 1 Inthe Navigation pane, clickthe Servers tab.
Step 2 Onthe Servers tab, expand Servers >Policies.
Step 3 Expandthe node for theorganization where you want to create the policy.
Ifthe system does not includemultitenancy, expand the root node.
Step 4 Right-clickvNIC/vHBA Placement Policies and choose Create Placement Policy.
Step 5 Inthe Create Placement Policy dialog box, do the following:
a) In the Name field, enter a unique name for the placement policy.
Thisname can be between 1 and 16 alphanumeric characters. You cannot use spaces or any special
charactersother than - (hyphen), _ (underscore), : (colon), and . (period), and you cannot change this name
afterthe object has beensaved.
b) Inthe Selection Preference column for each Virtual Slot, choose one of the following from the drop-down
list:
All—Allconfigured vNICs and vHBAs can be assigned to the vCon, whether they are explicitly
assignedto it, unassigned,or dynamic.
AssignedOnly—vNICs and vHBAs must be explicitly assigned to the vCon. You can assign them
explicitlythrough the service profile or the properties of the vNIC or vHBA.
ExcludeDynamic—Dynamic vNICs and vHBAs cannot be assigned to the vCon. The vCon can be
usedfor allstatic vNICs and vHBAs, whetherthey are unassigned or explicitlyassigned to it.
ExcludeUnassigned—Unassigned vNICs and vHBAs cannot be assigned to the vCon. The vCon
canbe used for dynamic vNICs and vHBAs and for static vNICs and vHBAs that are explicitly
assignedto it.
c) Click OK.
