Setup ModeYoucan choose to either restore the system configuration from an existing backup file, or manually set up
thesystem by going through theSetup wizard. If you chooseto restore the system, the backup file must be
reachablefrom the managementnetwork.
System Configuration TypeYoucan configure a Cisco UCS domain to use a single fabric interconnect in a standalone configuration or
touse a redundant pair of fabric interconnects in a cluster configuration.
Acluster configurationprovides high availability. If one fabric interconnect becomes unavailable, the other
takesover. Only one management port (Mgmt0) connection is required to support a cluster configuration;
however, both Mgmt0 ports should be connected to provide link-level redundancy.
Inaddition, acluster configuration actively enhances failoverrecovery time for redundantvirtual interface
(VIF)connections. When an adapter has an active VIF connection to one fabric interconnect and a standby
VIFconnection to the second, the learned MAC addresses of the active VIF are replicated but not installed
onthe second fabric interconnect. If the active VIF fails, the second fabric interconnect installs the replicated
MACaddresses and broadcaststhem to thenetwork through gratuitousARP messages, shortening the
switchovertime.
Thecluster configuration provides redundancy only for themanagement plane. Data redundancy is
dependenton the user configuration and may require a third-party tool to support data redundancy.
Note
Touse the cluster configuration, the two fabric interconnects must be directly connected together using Ethernet
cablesbetween the L1 (L1-to-L1) and L2 (L2-to-L2) high availability ports, with no other fabric interconnects
inbetween. This allows the two fabricinterconnects to continuously monitor the status of each other and
quicklyknow when onehas failed.
Bothfabric interconnects in a cluster configuration must go through the initial setup process. The first fabric
interconnectto be set up must be enabled for a cluster configuration. Then, when the second fabric interconnect
isset up,it detectsthe first fabricinterconnect as a peerfabric interconnectin the cluster.
Formore information, refer to the Cisco UCS 6100 SeriesFabric Interconnect Hardware Installation Guide.
Management Port IP AddressIna standalone configuration, you must specify only one IP address and the subnet mask for the single
managementport on thefabric interconnect.
Ina clusterconfiguration, you must specify the following three IP addresses in the same subnet:
• Management port IP address for fabric interconnect A
• Management port IP address for fabric interconnect B
• Cluster IP address
