accessany policies in the Finance organization. However, both Finance and HR can use policies and pools
inthe root organization.
Ifyou create organizations in a multi-tenant environment, you can also set up one or more of the following
foreach organizationor for a sub-organization in the same hierarchy:
• Resource pools
• Policies
• Service profiles
• Service profile templates
If You Opt In to Multi-Tenancy
EachCisco UCS domain is dividedinto several distinct organizations. The types of organizations you create
ina multi-tenancyimplementation depends upon the business needs of the company. Examples include
organizationsthat represent the following:
• Enterprise groups or divisions within a company, such as marketing, finance, engineering, or human
resources
• Differentcustomers or nameservice domains, for serviceproviders
Youcan create locales to ensure that users have access only to those organizations that they are authorized
toadminister.
If You Opt Out of Multi-Tenancy
TheCisco UCS domain remains a single logical entity with everything in the root organization. All policies
andresource pools can be assigned to any server in the Cisco UCS domain.
Virtualization in Cisco UCSOverview of Virtualization
Virtualizationallows the creation of multiple virtual machines (VMs) to run in isolation, side by side on the
samephysical machine.
Eachvirtual machine has its own set of virtual hardware (RAM, CPU, NIC) upon which anoperating system
andfully configured applications are loaded. The operating system sees a consistent, normalized set of hardware
regardlessof theactual physical hardware components.
Ina virtual machine, both hardware and software are encapsulated in a single file for rapid copying,
provisioning, and moving between physical servers. You can move a virtual machine, within seconds, from
onephysical server to another for zero-downtime maintenance and continuous workload consolidation.
Thevirtual hardware makes it possible for manyservers, each running in an independent virtual machine, to
runon a single physical server. The advantages of virtualization include better use of computing resources,
greaterserver density, and seamless server migration.
