Updating the CIMC Firmware on a Server
Donot remove the hardware that contains the endpoint or perform any maintenance on it until the update
processhas completed.If the hardware is removed or otherwise unavailable due to maintenance, the
firmwareupdate fails. This failure may corrupt the backup partition. You cannot update the firmware on
anendpoint with a corrupted backup partition.

Procedure
Step 1 Inthe Navigation pane, clickthe Equipment tab.
Step 2 Onthe Equipment tab, expand Equipment >Chassis >Chassis Number >Servers.
Step 3 Expandthe node for theserver for which you want to update the CIMC.
Step 4 Inthe General tab, click the Inventory tab.
Step 5 Clickthe CIMC tab.
Step 6 Inthe Actions area, clickUpdate Firmware.
Step 7 Inthe Update Firmware dialog box, do the following:
a) From the Versiondrop-down list, select the firmware version to which you want to update the endpoint.
b) (Optional) If you want to update the firmware regardless of any possible incompatibilities or currently
executingtasks, check the IgnoreCompatibility Check check box.
c) Click OK.
CiscoUCS Manager copies the selected firmware package to the backup memory slot, where it remains until
youexplicitly activateit.
Step 8 (Optional) Monitor the status of the update in the Update Status area.
Theupdate process can take several minutes. Do not activate the firmware until the selected firmware package
displaysin the BackupVersion field in the Firmware area of the General tab.

Theactivation of firmwarefor a CIMC does not disrupt data traffic. However, it will interrupt all KVM
sessionsand disconnect any vMedia attached to the server.
