Provision GR-303 Service

Provisioning ISDN BRI Service

Provisioning ISDN BRI Service

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Interface (BRI) operates at 144,000 bits per second and is designed for desktop service. ISDN BRI is also referred to as 2B+D because it provides two Bearer channels (B1 and B2) at 64 kilobits per second, plus one D channel for signaling at 16 kilobits per second.

ISDN BRI settings and status depend on the mode.

￿￿3DS0 Mode transports each ISDN BRI as three DS0s, one each for the B1, B2, and D channels. These DS0s are provisioned as digital crossconnects between groom and drop DS0s. The DS0 Type must be set to Data. No special ISDN commands are used.

￿￿4:1 TDM Mode transports each ISDN BRI as 2.25 DS0s, one for each B channel and 0.25 for the D channel by multiplexing four D channels onto one DS0. This mode can efficiently carry 4 BRIs using only 9 DS0s. This mode works with GR-303 switch interfaces, using a fixed connection for the D channel and dynamically connecting the two B channels when needed.

The Access Navigator provides GR-303 support for ISDN BRI service using the 4:1 TDM mode, which combines the D (signaling) channels of four BRI connections into one DS0 channel that is statically connected to the switch. In the 4:1 TDM mode, the switch uses Call Reference Values (CRVs) to set up ISDN BRI connections for the B1 and B2 (bearer) channels.

For 3DS0 transport mode using DCS, see Provisioning ISDN BRI Service on page 9-3.)

Provisioning P-Phone Service

The Nortel Proprietary Phone (P-Phone), also called an Electronic Business Set (EBS), is an analog Centrex service offered by Nortel and supported by Nortel DMS switches and P-Phone compatible telephone stations. The analog signal between the P-Phone and Central Office is a single-pair subscriber loop providing normal full-duplex analog voice and an 8-kHz half-duplex amplitude-shift-keyed signal that carries signaling information.

The Access Navigator and Adit 600 provide P-Phone support by converting the analog P-Phone signals to more efficient digital loop carriers. The Access Navigator can support up to 384 P-Phone channels. The Adit 600 is equipped with P-Phone service cards that connect to the customer’s analog P-Phones. The P-Phone signaling information then travels over the GR-303 TMC channel between the Access Navigator and the Nortel DMS switch. The switch uses Call Reference Values (CRVs) to set up DS0 cross-connections in the Access Navigator to set up calls to the P-Phones. This approach also provides efficient GR-303 call concentration and reduces facility costs.
