NOTE: During the load operation, the standby Controller will report its status as “Card Failed” so that the active Controller will reject switch controller commands until the software update process is complete.

1.Send load command to update standby Controller with the following command: load xmodem standby

NOTE: Carrier Access software file names are shortened for compatibility with PC and UNIX systems. For example, a CA part number for GR-303 software such as 019-0050 version 1.80 would be shortened to 0050180.303. Similarly, the DCS software would be shortened to 00510180.DCS, and the GR-303 P-Phone software would be shortened to 02310180.EBS. Boot code software version 01.09 would be named BT0109.MGM.

In the following step, the menu and key names may differ slightly, depending on the terminal emulation program being used.

2.Using Microsoft HyperTerminal (or similar program), do the following:

￿Select Transfer/Send File from the menu

￿Select Xmodem protocol

￿Enter Filename of update software (or use Browse feature to locate file)

￿Click on Send button

NOTE: Depending on the file size, the file transfer may take up to 30 minutes.

3.Wait until “Software update succeeded.” message appears before continuing to next step.

4.Wait two minutes to allow updated Controller card to boot up and learn system configuration settings.

5.Verify current Controller status and software version with following command:

status equipment

Requirement: Updated Controller is in “Standby”, indicating it is operational.

Requirement: Standby Controller shows new software version.

6.If active Controller has version greater than 1.1x software (version number starts with the digits 1.1), skip to Step 12.
