A Telcordia® (formerly Bellcore) generic requirement describing a digital loop carrier system that operates on T1 circuits between an Integrated Digital Terminal (switch) and a Remote Digital Terminal. The IDT controls the RDT through an Embedded Operations Channel (EOC) for messaging and an embedded Timeslot Management Channel (TMC) for setting up crossconnects. GR-303 systems can provide call concentration from 1:1 to 44:1 and are expandable from 2 to 28 T1 circuits that can carry up to 668 channels simultaneously.

Consolidating or segregating traffic for efficiency.

A general term that refers to a system connection, port or boundary. Interfaces are described by their physical, electrical, and data properties. Access Navigator interfaces include the Alarm Output connector, DSX-1 interface, and Ethernet port.

IP. A network layer protocol. The dominant layer protocol used in TCP/IP applications.

A 32-bit network address that uniquely locates a host in an internetwork. Most IP addresses today still use IP version 4 (IPv4) format containing four numbers separated by three periods. The general format is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where each xxx is a decimal number between 0 and 255.

ISDN BRI provides 144,000 bits per second and is designed for desktop service. ISDN BRI is also referred to as 2B+D because it provides two Bearer channels (B1 and B2) at 64 kilobits per second, plus one D channel for signaling at 16 kilobits per second. The ISDN BRI card complies with the Universal Digital Loop Carrier (UDLC) model described in Telcordia® (Bellcore) specification TR-397.

LBO. A DS1 (T1) transmit output property that ensures the signal received at the other end of the line has the required amplitude and shape to minimize errors. This property is specified either by its DSX-1 Equalization or CSU Attenuation.

TermID. An identifier used in GR-303 systems to number the switch DS1s. These IDs are independent of the hardware DS1 numbers. Any switch DS1 can be Line Terminal ID #1

LULT. A line unit (card) for terminating a subscriber-side ISDN BRI port.

LUNT. A line unit (card) terminating a network-side ISDN BRI port.

Traditionally, an electrical path (two wires) between the central office and a subscriber phone. More generally, any connection between two points in a carrier network.
