Alarms

Purpose: Allows the user to display all active alarms at once, or just a group of the alarms. Alarms are “events” that do affect, or may affect, service. Adding modifiers to the alarms command enables the user to display alarms by type and by severity.

Access Navigator alarms have five levels of severity. Only the first three provide front panel indications and alarm relay outputs.

￿CRITICAL alarms affect service to 128 or more subscribers, with a single failure. There are no critical alarms currently defined for the Access Navigator.

￿MAJOR alarms affect service to 24 or more subscribers, with a single failure. Since each DS1 (or T1) carries 24 DS0s, the loss of traffic on one or more DS1s will produce a major alarm. A major alarm can be caused by an external event (such as a cut T1 line) or an internal problem (such as a failed T1 card).

￿MINOR alarms affect service to 2 to 23 subscribers, or reduce service reliability. A minor alarm will occur if a redundant element fails, such as a Controller card, power supply, or GR-303 control channel.

￿WARNING alarms (GR-303 only) indicate a service state change.

￿ALERT alarms are non-service affecting, but indicate a quality problem. Alerts will occur when monitored traffic events exceed user-set thresholds.

Security: Level 3 (monitor)

Syntax: alarms

Displays all alarms.

Syntax: alarms <majorminoralert>

Display only those alarms with the specified severity.
