tunnel source [<ip address> | <interface>]

Use the tunnel source command to specify the IP address or name of a physical interface to use as the
source address for all packets transmitted on this interface. Use the no form of this command to clear the
tunnel source address.
Syntax Description
<ip address> Specifies the IP address in dotted decimal notation to use as the source address
for all packets transmitted on this interface (for example: 192.22.73.101).
<interface> S pecifie s the interface (in the format type <slot/port>) that contains th e IP address
to use as the source address for all packets transmitted on this interface.
Default Values
By default, a tunnel source is not defined.
Applicable Platforms
This command applies to the NetVanta 300, 1000R, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 and Total Access 900
Series units.

Release 9.1 Command was introduced.
Release 11.1 Command was expanded to inclu de demand interfaces.
Functional Notes
Until a tunnel interface has a source IP address defined and the physical interfa ce us ed as the source is
operational, the tunnel is not operational.
The tunnel source IP address will be the value put into the source field of the outer IP header after GRE
encapsulation of the origin a l packet.
