Cisco Element Mana ger Framework (Cisc o EMF) Software
Cisco EMF is an open carrier class management system, designed to integrate with third party products
and propri etar y operatio nal support syste ms.
Many different m anag emen t pr otoc ols, bo th sta nda rds-ba sed an d p rop rieta ry, are supp orte d by
Cisco EMF in a transparent manner. New network devices are managed instantly and new managem ent
appli cations ca n be quick ly developed t o meet new requirem ents.
Cisco EMF systems arc hitecture provides a distributed network ma nageme nt solution de signed to
manage la rge-scale n etworks. Cisc o EMF p rovides the pe rfor ma nce re quir ed wi thin th e l ogic al an d
physical ar chi tecture and provides use r inter faces that supp ort the ne ed to perf orm mass op eration s to
large domains within the overall network. In ad ditio n, due to the distributed nature of Cisc o EMF,
administ ration t ools are pr ovided to “manage” the management system. Refer to the Cisco Element

Map V ie wer is the primary entry point into the Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manager software. When Map
Viewer is launched, the application is displayed corresponding to the highlighted map icon in the
hierarchy pane. You can easily monitor the status of all network elements or abstractions of elements
contained within the network and you can launch any additional applications available. See “Map V ie wer
(Viewer)” sect ion on page 3-6 fo r further details.
Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manag er Software
The Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manager application is a carrier class Element Manager (EM) that allows
you to manage Cisco 12000/10720 Routers. Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manager adds custom windows
and model ing behavior to the stand ard Cisco EMF to al low the management of the Cisco 12000 Serie s
and Ci sco 10720 Ro uter s.
