Ethernet Interface Configuration

Step 7 Click Save to save your configuration chan ges.
Step 8 Choose File > Close to close the window.

Ethernet Interface Configuration WindowDetailed Description

The Ethe rnet In terface C onfiguration window displays two tabs: Configura tion and HSRP Parameters.
Configuration Tab
The Con figura tion tab (se e Figure 8- 3 on page 8-10 ) contains a single General area.
General
The General area displays the following fields:
LoopbackThe following options are available:
InternalNo cable is needed to connect the input and output ports. The data is looped back within
the device itself. Applicable only for Gigabit and Fast Ethernet interfaces.
ExternalInput and output ports are physically connected by a cable to simulate a loopback. When
data i s tra nsm itted, it tr avels through t he ou tput port and en ters the d evice throug h t he input port .
Applic able o nly for Gi gabi t a nd Fast Ethe rnet in terfa ces.
EnabledPackets are transmitted back to the source to test the interface functionality and ensure
that packets transmitted through the interface reach the destination. Applicable only for GRP
Ethernet interfaces.
Caution When the loopback for the Ethernet interface in the GRP is enabled, the Ethernet
communication link to the Cisco 12000 Series Router will be lost.

Keepalive PeriodDisplays set the keepalive period. The system sends packets after this interval to
know if the interface or the network is up for routin g packets. By default thi s interval is 10 seconds.

The HSRP Parameters tab (see Figure 8-4 on page 8-11) displays a Configured Group Numbers field and
an HSR P Param eters ar ea.
