Chapter 19 Change Management Mismatched State
Two example scenarios during which a line card can be moved to mismatched state are described as
follows:
Example 19-1 Scenario 1
Scenario 1The misma tch ed stat e app ea rs if you insert an inc orre ct line ca rd tha t does not co rresp ond
with the l ine card type that has been pre-deployed and managed in Cisco 12000/10720 Router Mana ger.
This can occur during an Online Insertion removal process. For example, consider that a chassis has an
8 port fast Ethe rnet line card at Slot-1 and its being manage d. If the 8 por t fast Ethern et lin e card is
removed from the device and a 3 port gigabit Ethernet line card is inserted, now the Cisco 12000/10720
Router Manager will force a rediscovery on the respective chassis. After the chassis rediscovery is
completed the previously d eployed and managed 8 port fast Ethernet line card object at Slot-1 will be
moved to MisMatched State, with a major alarm raised against the line card object with the desc ription
Deployed module does not match actual module, because the newly inserted line card at slot-1 (ie. 3
port giga bit Et herne t) is of different ty pe agai nst the or igi nally pr e- depl oyed and ma nage d 8 por t fast
Ethernet line card. Similarly all the interface objects of the mismatched line card object will also be
moved to MisMatched state.
The mismatched line card object and all its interface object ico ns in the viewer are hashed and also will
be assoc iate d with an OSI Ic on a s d ispl ayed be low, unde r t he C omp one nt M ana ged an d Phys ica l

To rectify the line card mismatch problem caused due to this scenario, either the incorrect line card can
be rem oved from th e device and t he c or rec t t ype o f lin e card c an b e inse rted a t Sl ot- 1 o r if t he newly
inserted 3 port gigabit Ethernet line card needs to be retained in the device, then the mismatched line
card ob ject need to be decommi ssioned and deleted , then need to re- commiss ion the chass is object. This
will result in discovering the 3 port gigabit Ethernet line ca rd and all its interface objects in appropriate
states.
