Fault Management

This chapter describes how to vie w appropriate fault information on the Cisco 12000/10720 Routers you
are mana ging. Th e Cisco 1200 0/10720 Rou ters can be configured to sen d SNMP traps when various
conditions are detected. This may be a fault, the correction/resolution of a previous condition or a status
update. Traps are translated into Cisco EMF alarms and raised against the appropriate Cisco
12000/10 720 Ro ute r Ma na ger obje ct. T hese al arm s a re cl ear ed aut om atic all y (i f the r esolu tio n ca n be

Cisco 12000/ 107 20 Rou ters . Within t he M a p Vi ewer appli cat ion, y ou a re no t ified of ala rms on
individual obje cts by the col ored stat us icons next to each manag ed obj ect. Th e following table detai ls
all status colors and their related severities.
Alarms are propagated up the object hierarchy, and are reflected up to the highest level. For example,
say a major (or ange) al arm occurs on a n interface . If you do not have the chassis ma p open, and if th e
interface tex t is not apparent, how would you know an alarm had occurred at that level? The answer is:
