Commissioning and Subchassis Discovery
After you deploy a c hassis, the next step in creating a manage able system is to commissio n the c hassis
(which begins the process of subchassis discov ery). Figure 3-21 shows a Cisco 12008 chassis map in the
Physical view before subc hassis discovery. Subchassis discovery discovers all p hysical objects (t hat is,
modules and interfaces) within the chassis and places them onto the chassis map.

Line cards and inter faces located within the chassis are disc o vered at this ti me. Commissioni ng not on ly
discovers all the physical objects within the chassis, but also uploads the ATM connection objects (ATM
PVC objects only) and initiates heartbeat polling that allows alarms to be raised on the chassis and all
the physical objects within the chassis.
