Starting Cis co EMF and Cisc o 12000/10720 Router Man ager

Map Viewer (Viewer)

MapViewer allows complete flexibility in viewing, building, and monitoring your network using
graphi ca l r epre sen tat ions of net work e lem e nts .
MapViewer is the prim ary entr y point into the Cisco 12000 /10720 Rout er Mana ger. When the
MapVie wer a ppli cati on is la unched , a win do w appear s co rresp ondin g to the h igh light ed map ic on in the
hierarchy pane. You can easily monitor the status of all network elements or abstractions of elements
conta ined w ithi n th e ne twork and you c an l aunc h any o f th e ad dit iona l a ppli cat ion s on t he La unchp ad .
Refer to the Cisco Eleme nt Man agement Framework User Gu ide for further details on the MapViewer
application.

Groups

Object Group Manager allows you to organize network elements into o bject groups. An obje ct group is
a collec tion of obje cts which a re relate d in some w ay. The y may al l be the same t ype of equipment o r all
belong to the same custom er.
Object groups can be built manually or by building a query . Some Cisco EMF subsystems may also build
object gr oups whi ch m ay b e visibl e a nd usa ble by the Ci sco EMF use r.
Refer to the Cisco Element Management Fr amework User Guide for furt her d eta ils o n th e Obje ct Gr oup
Manager a pplicat ion.

Access

User Access Control allo ws system admi nistrators the oppor tunity to control the features of the ir system
that c an be ac cesse d by various levels of per sonn el. T his i s impo rta nt f or secur e net work m an agem ent .
Refer to t he Cisco Element Management Framework User Guide for further details on the User Access
Control application.

Event Browser (Events)

One of the most important aspects of Network Service Management is the ability to identify faults and
other e vents on the network and to take action to resolve them quickly and eff iciently . For example, there
may be a p ower suppl y fault in a c ha ssis whi ch would requ ir e a n eng in eer to be se nt o ut t o rec tify t he
fault. This fault is critical to the running of the network and would need prompt attention.
In Cisco EMF, when a condition (fault) occurs on a managed object in the network, the system is notified
immediately. Notification is shown as an event and can be viewed with the Event Browser (when
configured to do so).
Refer to the Cisco Eleme nt Management Framework Use r Guide R elease 3.2 for furth er details on t he
Event Browser application.

Discovery

Discovery allow you to examine the network for IP and SNMP d evices and create a managed object for
each new device dis covered. Auto-dis covery can be ope ned from t h e Launc hpad window or from a pop
up menu availab le on selecte d objects .
Refer to the Cisco Eleme nt Management Framework Use r Guide R elease 3.2 for furth er details on t he
Auto-discovery application.
