Chapter 2 Concepts Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manager Object States
Heartbeat polling is performed on an object in the performance logging on state. If the object moves into
the errored state, it is returned to the performance logging on state when the error is rectified. For
example, if a line card is in the perfor mance l ogging on sta te and it go es down in the device, the EM
moves the line card into the errored state. When heartbeat polling finds that the line card is operational,
the EM restores the line card to the performance logging on state.
Lost Comms
The lost comms (lost communications) state indicates that the object is not contactable. Cisco
12000/10 720 Route r Manage r can apply th is state to a cha ssis, module , or interfac e. During t his state,
heart beat polli ng is perfor med on the ob ject. When the obj ect beco mes con tactab le again, i t moves out
of the lost comms sta te.
Discovery Lost Comms
The discovery lost comms state is quite similar to the lost comms state; however, this state only occurs
during subcha ssis discovery. For example, if you commissi on a chassis (which begins th e process of
subchassis disco v ery), and if a pre -deplo yed line card is not prese nt then, the line card is mov ed into the
discovery lost comms state. When the linecard is re-inserted in the device, subchassis discovery is
resumed, and the object moves o ut of the discove ry lost comms state.
Mismatched
The mismatched state occurs when a mismatch is found between what is in the hardware and what is
deployed in Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manager . For example, say you are expecting an ATM OC-3 line
card. So you pr edep loy and perfo rm offline configuration in Cisco 1200 0/10720 Rou ter Man ager to
prepare for that type of line card. Now, when the line card becomes available and is placed into the
chassis, it is not an ATM OC-3 line card, b ut a POS OC-3 line card. So when Cisco 12000/10720 Router
Manager det ects the new li ne card, it f inds a mismatch . The line card ge ts pla ced into the mismatch state,
and a ma jor alarm is raised against the line card.
Transient Object States
Certain states in Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manager are t emporary or transient, that is , they exist only
for a short time while a process is being performed. The following states are transient:
•Download—T emporary state that is assigned to objects in Cisco 12000/10720 Router Manager when
an Cisc o IOS Download i s bein g p erfo rme d.
•Discovery—Temporary state that is assi gned to obje cts in Cisco 12000/ 10720 Rout er Manage r
during subcha ssis discovery. Ob ject s are b eing disc overed at th is sta ge.
•Synchronization—This temporary state is applicable only for chassis. During this state, th e EM
synchroniz es with its ATM conne ction in formati on with the device.
