Red Alarm Inquiry Test (#140)
DS1 Interface circuit pac k raises a Red alarm when the framing patter n of the
incoming DS1 bit stream has b een lost. The Red Alarm Inquiry Test checks the
framing status of a DS1 Interface circuit p ack. DS1 Interface circuit p ack takes 3
seconds to recog nize and report a Red alarm and 10 seconds to recog nize and
report the resolution of a Red alarm.
When the DS1 Interface circuit pac k detects a Red alarm, the circ uit pack will
transmit a Yellow alarm to the remote DS1 endpoint and send a RED ALARM
message to the maintenance software. After the Red alarm is confirmed, the
maintenance software places all t runks of the circuit pack int o the out-of-service
state. The inquiry test will be run every 10 minutes until the Red alarm is cleared.
When the Red alarm is cleared, the DS1 Interface c ircuit pack will stop
transmitting the Yellow alarm to the remote DS1 endpoint. The maintenance
software restores all trunks of the DS1 Interface circuit p ack to the service state
before the Red alarm occurs.
Loss of Multiframe Alarm: If the DS1 Interface circ uit pack is administered using
DMI-BOS signaling, the DS1 Interface c ircuit pack raises a Loss of Multiframe
Alarm (LMA) when it cannot interpret the i ncoming signaling b its to synchronize
to the multiframe pattern received in the 24th channel. Once DS1 Interface c ircuit
pack detec ts an LMA, the circuit pack wi ll transmit a Remote Multiframe Alarm
(RMA) to the remote DS1 endpoint. Maintenance software handles b oth Red
alarm and LMA alarm(s) using the s ame mechanism.
