If there are no Packet Bus alarms, reset the circuit p ack with the busyout
board PCSS and reset board PCSS commands. If the Circ uit Pack
Restart Test (#594) passes, then the on-board circuitry is healthy. Retire
the alarm with the test board PCSS long clear command . If the Circuit
Pack Restart Test (#594) fails, replace the circuit pack .
k. The SPE sof tware dete cts a n exc essi ve num ber o f up- link m essa ges f rom
the TN2185 board within a certain time p eriod. To prevent the faulty board
from flooding the switch with data, the switch software takes the b oard out
of service and alarms it. The switch sof tware also tells the Archangel to
ignore up-link messages from th e board.
When the board is alarmed d ue to this error, the switch software
periodically puts the board back in service and tells the Archangel to
process up-link messag es from the board. If the prob lem still exists, the
software takes the circuit pac k out of service again. If th e circuit pack
does not exhibit the prob lem for a certain time period , then maintenance
software resolves the alarm and the circ uit pack is left in servic e.
l. The circuit pack received an inconsistent down-link messag e (a bad
header, bad port number, bad data, bad subqualifier, or bad logical link)
over the Control Channel.
m. The board is receiving data from the bus fa ster than it can distribute the
data to its endpoints, c ausing the FIFO RAM buffer to overflow. This error
can occur oc casionally due to the statistic al sizing of the buffers. If it
occurs frequently, it may indic ate a LAPD parameter mismatch. LAPD
should recover from this prob lem, but it may degrad e the performance of
the LAN bus.
When this error is reported, maintenance read s and clears the board
counter and logs the p roblem in the maintenance error log .
n. Bad translation RAM detected, but the c all continues by using another
translation location. The circuit p ack reports this error when it c annot
update NPE/NCE memory and read it bac k. This error is not
service-affecting and can be ignored , but can lead to other typ es of errors
against this circuit p ack.
