Recovery
There are several less severe resets available to the system that allow it to
recover from disrupting errors. The user can initiate these resets by using the
reset system
n
commands (where
n
is the reset level). These commands are
used to manually restart the system at various levels, d epending on the req uired
test activity. The reset system commands are discussed below.
A system is reset due to a loss of power, or throug h:
Reset commands at the administration ter minal.
Maintenance software, from which the system c an reset itself. (This
process starts when cer tain software and hardware errors are detec ted by
the software.)
!WARNING:

When the system is rebooted or reset at level 2, 3, 4, or 5, all voic e

terminal and attendant c onsole features are adversely affected .

Users should be advised of services that are lost and that, as a

result, must be reactivated. See

‘‘Removing Power’’

in this chapter.

The administration terminal display a nd circuit pac k LEDs indicate the prog ress
of the recovery process. See ‘‘LED Interpretation’’ in this chap ter for more
information.
The sections that follow discuss suc cessful system resets. For each level of
reset, a typical administrat ion terminal display is p rovided. Note that any
hexadecimal numbers sho wn in parentheses, such as (=8B89), are only
examples and are subjec t to change.
NOTE:
If any of the diagnostic tes ts fail, the system may or may not function
properly, and the LMM may or may not proceed with the restart. If the LMM
does not p roce ed wi th the resta rt, t he sys tem g oes in to SPE-Do wn Mo de. I n
failure cases, the approp riate part (for example, the Processor c ircuit pack)
should be replac ed.
NOTE:
Use and check the results of the set/get vector c ommands found in
Chapter 2, ‘‘Maintenance Commands’’, to determine how much time should
be added for the recovery levels. Also, if an upd ate file is applied on a
system reset, add from 30 second s to one minute to the recovery time for
that reset.
