About This Book

Purpose

This book contains the information neede d to monitor, test, and maintain
DEFINITY® Enterprise Communications Server (ECS) csi system and c overs
many of the faults and troubles that c an occur in the system. Most maintenanc e
requirements are simple proced ures due to the modular, self-testing nature of the
system.
Simple, traditional troubleshooting methods are sometimes sufficient to loc ate
and clear faults. The traditional method s include terminal sub stitution, visual
inspections, continui ty checks, and c larification of operating procedures with
users.

Intended Audience

The information in this book is intended for use by:
■A maintenance technician dispatched to a DEFINITY System site in
response to a trouble alarm or a user troub le report
■A maintenance technician located at a remote maintenance fa cility
■The user’s assigned maintenance tec hnician. The technician is exp ected
to have a knowledge of teleco mmunications fundamentals and of the
DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server systems to the extent that
the procedures in this b ook can be perfor med, in most cases, without
assistance.
