System Technician-Demanded Tests: Descriptions
and Error Codes
Always investigate tests in the order p resented in the table be low when
inspecting errors in the sy stem. By clearing error cod es associated with the
Voice and Control Channel Local Loop Around Test, for example, you may also
clear errors generated from other tests in the testing sequence.
Digital Line NPE Crosstalk Test (#9)
One or more Network Processing Elements (NPEs) reside on each circ uit pack
with a TDM Bus interface. The NPE controls port connec tivity and gain and
provides conferencing functions on a per-port basis. The NPE Crosstalk Test
verifies that this port’s NPE channel talks on the selec ted time slot and never
crosses over to time slots reserved for other c onnections. If the NPE is not
working correctly, one-way and noisy connections may be ob served. This test is
part of a port’s Long Test Sequence and takes about 20 to 30 secon ds to
complete. Crosstalk testing oc curs on both the p rimary information channel
(voice) and the second ary information channel (d ata) associated with eac h
digital station por t. If this test fails on either channel, the station and the DTDM
are taken out-of-service.
