System Login Procedure

1. Verify the screen displays: Login:
2. Type craft and press Enter.
3. Verify the screen displays: password:
4. Type crftpw and press Enter. For security reasons, the password is not
displayed as it is typed. The screen displays the software version.
5. Verify the screen display is similar to:
Terminal Type (513, 715, 4410, 4425, VT220): [513]
6. Enter the type of management terminal and press Enter.
NOTE:
If you are logging in remotely to the c si, you may need to disab le your local
modem’s error correction feature b efore attempting to estab lish connection
with the switch’s external modem. For most mod ems, the AT\N 0 [“zero”]
command should d isable error correcti on.

Forced Password Aging and Administrable

Logins

This feature provides enhanced log in/password secur ity by adding a security
feature that allows users to define their own logins /passwords and to sp ecify a
set of commands for eac h login. The system allows up to 11 cust omer logins.
Each login name can be c ustomized and must b e made up of from 3 to 6
alphabetic/numeric characters, or a c ombination of both. A pass word must be
from 4 to 11 characters in leng th and contain at least 1 alp habetic and 1 numeric
symbol. Password aging is an optional feature that the super-user ad ministering
the logins can activate.
NOTE:
If several users are logging in and out at the same time, a user may see the
message: Transient command conflict detected; please try
later. After the “users” have com pleted logg ing in or out, the terminal is
available for use.
The password for each login c an be aged star ting with the date the p assword
was created, or chang ed, and continuing for a specified number of days (1 to
99). The user is notified at the login promp t, 7 days before the pas sword
expiration date, that the p assword is about to expire. When the p assword expires
the user is required to enter a new password into the syste m before logging in. If
a login is added or removed, the “Security Measurement” reports are not
