announcements command, error messages d isplay indicating corrective
action. Maintenance software that monitors hard ware logs hardware errors
to maintenance. Then, maintenance software invokes test s to diagnose
and attempt correc tive action. If maintenance software fails to correc t the
problem, an alarm raises di splaying corrective ac tion.
The save announcements command writes two time-stamped, ident ical
copies of announcement d ata to selected devic es. The time-stamp for
both copies is the same. Eac h copy contains a timestamp and the state of
the copy. (good or bad)
If good copi es of announcement files are not available, the restore
announcements command c annot execute until the save
announcements command comple tes. Announcements on the board are
still usable.

The following example shows the output from the save announcements
command.

All translation data is kept in memor y during system operation, and if the switch
goes down, the system loses all d ata. This command allows users to save the
in-memory translation data to the memory c ard. This command runs as par t of
scheduled maintenanc e and/or on demand b y the technician.
